Dear__________________________________________:

I am a registered voter and would like to express my feelings on an issue that has placed our judicial system, the U.S. Constitution, the Cuban American community, and the credibility of the media and government on the spotlight. I am in favor of a thorough, Congressional investigation of the Elian Gonzalez case.  There are conflicting reports from the governments involved and the media. Eventually, definitive proof for the allegations of either side must be sought in order to seek a rightful solution and a peaceful understanding.  I strongly recommend the congressional investigation be undertaken because I am most concerned about (select as many as you wish):

a.  Children have rights even though they might be Cuban.

b.  Federal troops stormed the The Gonzalez family home in Miami. The child was taken forcefully by armed agents despite the fact that the family had no weapons, they were defenseless.

c.  Elian Gonzalez was gassed and children resting around the Gonzalez house were also gassed.  All of them are traumatized.

d.  The role the media played in justifying the raid has been questioned because only some media networks have access to the news source at this time.

e.  Elian remains in custody and despite being on U.S soil he is
incommunicado.

f.  We are not going to be able to say:"I pledge allegiance to the US of America and to the republic for which it stands with Liberty and Justice for all" when we think of the Elian case.

I am a ___________________(occupation) and have lived in the United States  for __________(number)  years.  These issues are very important and go beyond any negotiations, differences,  or understandings between the Administration and Castro. The issues raised deal with basic rights and fundamental principles of the American government and way of life. These issues cannot be
ignored because we have to overcome all allegations and strengthen American democracy and credibility.

Sincerely,
